It's Not Just Me
~by Jay

Medical students who happen to be women are still mistaken for nurses.

(and, by the way, if you haven't checked out the Microagressions site, you should do so now - but be warned, it is not going to make you feel all warm and fuzzy about human nature).

This still happens to me YEARS after I graduated! Pisses me off, you have no idea!

Oh, Jane, trust me - I have a very good idea. I started my clinical rotations in 1984 and every day - not an exaggeration every day - that I have worked since then, I've had to explain to at least once person that I am the doctor.

This happens all the time in the IT world too. There was a long while where I would carefully explain to the (generally) man on the phone that I actually WAS in fact a tech, and could probably fix his issue, but then I got to the point where when he again said, "No, I want to talk to a TECH!" I would just pass him off to a male colleague... who often ended up passing the customer back to ME since I was a Tier 2.

I don't miss that at all in my current job.

How about some discussion about how little respect is given to the work nurses do........I believe mostly because it is primarily being done by women and therefore cannot be important, difficult, or valuable.

Yes I agree with you, you are saying quite right this is happening at many places and this is very bad.
Thank you for your post.
